  • Vray Materials show up as black in Material editor

I did a search to see if this topic came up already, but I wasn't able to find anything, so I apologize if you get this question all the time.

Rendering works just fine, but for some reason the materials are showing up as black in material editor. I'm using version 1.47.03 with 3ds max 5 service pack 1

I received this checklist from Tedi at Chaosgroup to make sure I installed it properly

    *VRL server is running

*I authorized it as soon as I received the code from chaosgroup

*I have etered 127.0.0.1 for the V-ray license server

*Vray is the current renderer for Production and Draft

I tried to assign the vray renderer to the Activeshade slot, but there are no choices in the "Choose Renderer" pop up dialog box.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Is the material renderer locked to the production renderer in "Choose Renderer"? If so try unlocking it and choose v-ray

In the material editor preferences, chose the ME renderer to be the "Current" instead of "Scanline"

      Best regards,

That was the problem. Thank you for your help! Didn't even know that options menu existed.
