Hi could explain a bit more what you did before the error started showing up. This error means that the file is saved by a newer version and now in the older can't be opened - this is expected. Maybe you saved a custom version of this material with 3ds max 2022?

          Hey.
I have two max installed: 2022, 2020 and both have vray installed
Can't say exactly when the problem started - probably after installing one of vray's updates.
This refers not to custom material but to materials that are in the materials library that come with the vray-vray material browser.
The problem is with some materials not with everyone
The materials with which this problem is: carpaint, diagrammatic, emissive
And they also do not appear in the browser - see attachment
With the rest of the materials like bricks etc. there is no problem.
          Thanks

I suggest to delete all of the old Material Library files/folders and download it again manually. You can download it manually by executing the mtllib.exe file located in C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\3ds Max NNNN\bin. For 3ds Max 2022: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\VRay3ds Max2022\bin.

Do not forget to check and eventually fix you project paths in 3ds max:

              Thanks.
I deleted the materials library and reinstalled vray and it solved the problem.
Another thing: Is it possible to view image (see attached). Even before that it did not work with the vray material library. The path is set correctly

Hi this is a known issue. We have a report for this in our system under VMAX-11189.
I will add your request and bump it's priority

This is due to adding/refreshing materials with the script (under the "Add to library" button), but doing so from a max version higher than the one you tried reading them from.
It's a Max thing (the non-backward compatibility), and the only way you have to ensure it won't happen again is by doing all the addition/conversion from the lower Max version you have available.
Or, of course, use the library in the same, or higher, version of Max you created/refreshed it with.
