  • Render comes out as 25% of the Jpeg file

    Hi All,

After a relatively clunky subject line, I hope I'll be able to explain my issue better here.
I'm running V-ray 5.2.2. on my laptop with 3ds Max 2021. There is a scene of an interior of which I wanted to produce 7 renders from 7 different viewpoints. I've used the batch rendering option.

Now, once all of the images have rendered, I've noticed that all of them came out very weird, the actual scene only showing up at the top left quarter of the full image, the rest is black (example attached).

I hope this is something relatively easy to fix.

    Can you please help?

    Thanks,

    Peter

It is becasue in the VFB you have a test resolution set, so disable that and it'll be fine

Hi this is very strange. Is this the only scene that you had this issue with? Could you try to render using Batch Render in a new simple scene with a few cameras and let us know how it goes?

The test resolution would not make a full resolution and render one-quarter size in one corner, while keeping the rest black.

But it does, as you can see in this test. Not sure how else to test it tbh.
My output size is randomly set to 966x581 and test res is set to 25% and activated in the vfb.

EDIT: Small correction; whilst the test res is 25% the result is actually 1/8 I looks like.
Setting it to 50% will result in what the OP posted, a 1/4 sized.

              Hi there,

I switched the test resolution off, still got the same result, although I did switch it off while the render in progress. Now I've opened the VFB separately, switched the test resolution off and started the render that way. I'll come back with the results.
vladimir_krastev this never happened before, and I've rendered much more complex scenes. I don't recall if the test resolution was switched on at those times or not.
fixeighted agree, this 1/4 result came while the test resolution was set to 50%.

Hi this issue seems to only happen with jpeg format. I tested it with EXR and TIF and everything works as expected.
Enabling test resolution with jpegs causes the issue but it is actually 3ds max related. We have reported this to Autodesk.

It's easily reproducible so most certainly the reason.
Not really a massive deal unless of course you forget to disable it before going
away for what you think is a nice break whilst everything renders happily

fully agree - I'll take a stab at it with tiff and let you know the outcome, just to have a conclusion on this

Good that it works using tiff.

Oddly it does something different when set to png...this time it'll output the test res size, but without insetting into the actual frame size.
