  • falloff alpha noise/general issue

3d max 2022, vray update 2.2, GI enabled, brute force as primary, light cache secondary, animation preset -

looking to create a falloff opacity body to show underlying elements for medical imagery. Vray denoiser doesnt seem to affect the alpha noise created from a falloff in the opacity channel of a vray material and the edges are blotchy and look extra terrible in animation. the object with falloff i tried removing cast/receive shadows, and all reflections, etc.

Is there is another way to do what im trying to do besides falloff? I'm definitely open to suggestions, or if im just missing something stupid here(which is usually the problem) - any recommendations would be awesome.

    Thanks

In just a very quick test I found switching the opacity mode (in options) from stochastic to normal will
improve everything and the speed increase is considerable, so that may work for you

It is insane how much that improved it, thank you.

Please Chaos, default this option to normal vs stochastic

Glad it helped and yes, I was surprised at how relatively instant the result was.
There've been a couple of relevant posts recently in which stochastic was
identified as potentially problematic, so just lucky your issue came before I forgot about it
