  • VFB doesn't update while rendering.

    Hi,

I am having issues where the VFB often times doesn't seem to update while the rendering is going on. For example when zooming in and out using the mousewheel I can see the renderbuckets which seem to follow the zooming but the real rendering is frozen and only updates irregularly or when the rendering is finished
I recently had a GPU change (Quadro P1000 -> RTX 3060 TI) and I started noticing this after that. Is this a driver issue? I am using the NVidia Studio Drivers in the latest version.
Any clues on what could be done against this?

    Thx

    Hey Jonas,

I cannot reproduce this behavior on my machine, which version of Max and V-Ray are you using?
Does this happen on a new scene?
The latest studio drivers have performance issues, you will need to go back to 472 Studio drivers or 497 Game Ready drivers

Hi, thanks for the reply. I am using latest 3ds Max 2022 (latest updates) and the official latest V-Ray release Update 2. I will check if the game ready drivers maybe improve something, haven't tried this so far...

      Best,
      Jonas

Sounds to me like you have Lens Effects VFB layer turned on while bucket rendering, and then somehow it updated while bucket rendering was underway.

Could be you accidentally clicked "Update", changed a setting while "Interactive" was checked, or turned it on after render had commenced.

If so, what you see is the unfinished render processed with lens flare; it is not realtime. This is why you still see buckets moving with no progress, but the render is continuing behind the scenes.

When the render completes, this triggers Lens Effects to update again, which then shows you the full image.
