  • Shadow edge is not smooth

    Hi.

Do you know why this could happen? Looks like there is not smoothing on that part where the light turns to shadow.
My brain is not working this morning, but I hope you understand what I mean by looking the attached picture. Also the max file is attached.

edit: This happens in both gpu and cpu rendering.

    Thanks

It seems it's a problem with your vray light shadow bias. Try raising it. you have it currently at 0.002mm if I'm correct. With a higher value like 0.1mm the problem goes away.

Okay, thank you. I looked in to it for me it was 0,02 mm. Anyways, it gives me the same result, but and apparently if I start my scene with mm scale, the bias is 0,02 by default and I need to lift it to 0,1 mm my self and it works perfectly. Quite weird that the amount is so small by default.

Thank you anyway, next time I know how to avoid that. Thanks!

It's a known issue. We for example use meters for system units and all the vray lights have a bias of 0.2m which is huge. It's something to keep in mind in the future when setting up a scene.
