  • 3DSMAX / VRAY CPU 52023 / Tycaches

    Hello,

We didn't had the time to complete all the tests needed, but it seems Tycache do not load well in VRAY CPU 52023 (last build)

    - No problem at all with the same scene and the same Tycache with VRAY GPU 52023
    - No problem at all with the same scene and the same Tycache with VRAY CPU 52002
    - No problem at all with the same scene and the same Tycache with VRAY GPU 52002

The Tycache are not visible in the render, but fun fact, they are "understood" as geometry mesh since they are triggering the VrayDirt on other visible mesh as if they were "not visible from camera".

It's looklike invisible Tycache "bug" only appear when they are rendered as instance and are fully visible and renderable when they are rendered as meshes (it's a quick "bad" workaround for those who are exeperiencing this bug, scene is heavier, you don't have your embed texture anymore but still, it can help)

Tested with tyFlow_016132 BETA and tyFlow_016135 BETA

I don't know if it's all the caches or some who were build with some specific version of Tyflow.
Sorry to not send more detail about this issue.

    Thanks,
    Best,
    Nicolas

HI could you send us a sample scene that illustrates the issue? You can do that here or trough our support contact form.

I think the tyCache does not render only in IPR CPU when set to Instances (tested with both 5.20.02 and 5.20.23). It seems to render fine in production, can you confirm?

I'm sorry for my late answer,

I'm saddly not abble to run more tests at the time but I will do as soon as I can. I'm stuck in a middle of a huge production.
Thanks again for your time and your input,

        Nicolas

          Hello hermit.crab

We had some time this morning to run some additionnal test about the issue.

Mainly those test were run on 3DSMAX 2021.3.6, VRAY CPU 52023 and tyFlow_016135 BETA

          - Tycaches instances are rendering well in IPR
          - Tycaches instances are not visible in bucket mode render
          - Tycaches instances are not visible in progressive mode render
          - Tycaches meshes are rendering well in bucket mode render
          - Tycaches meshes are rendering well in progressive mode render

As soons as you drop any 3DSMAX modifier on the top of the Tycache (any, even if the modifier does not modify anything, exemple "normals" modifier without any checkbox on) the Tycache instance is rendrering well in all the render mode. I guess it's only because droping a modifier on top of a Tycaches "instance" remove the "instance" mode and see the Tycache as meshes (wich I can't confirm)

Linked a small scene we build for the tests,
I remain fully at your disposal about thoses questions,
          Thanks,
          Nicolas

Thanks for the provided scene. It seems the issue occurs with regular tyFlow (Mesh node set to "Render Instances") as well only within 3ds Max. You can work around the issue by rendering in Standalone (RMB in viewport > .vrscene exporter > Export and Render); it seems to render them correctly as instances (confirmed by comparing the memory tracking).

Actually, just so you know, the devs just informed me that Tyson is responsible for issues within 3ds Max. We only support exporting to STD, GPU and Cloud.

It is noted on my side,

I also hesitated to do the bug report on the Tyflow / Tyson side, but strangely this bug arrived with the new iteration of Vray (52023) I wondered if for this time in particular, it did not come from your side and not from his, not having changed version of Tyflow between time.

                    Best wait for Tyson's response.
