  • crash when playing with lights

    Good morning everyone,
with the latest version of vray, on max 2022, I'm experiencing crashes everytime the IPR is active and I switch off and on again a light, either dome or area.
it happened everytime I tried even in different scene.

I can't reproduce this in max 2022 and windows 10.
Could you elaborate more on how it breaks for you?

        EDIT: I could reproduce it.
The crash happens if "hidden lights" is turned off in the render settings, and the light visibility is toggled off and back on. (VMAX-12099)

Lorenzo, as a workaround, simply toggle the light off via its own switch.
You can either add the "light on" column to the scene explorer, or use the vray light lister for quick access to all lights in the scene.

Correct, invisible light is off in my scene.
it's faster from the scene tool rather than the light details usually.
I avoid using the light lister so as not to have thousands of flying windows..3d view, vray setting, pulze, materials node etc etc

As i was mentioning, if you right-click on the column header, you can choose more columns to display.
One of them is the on/off checkbox.

              It cropped my answer....
I was saying, I'm definitely gonna try.
Even though, on/off is going to switch off instances as well.
With visibility can be on the single light instead.
But it is what it is.... Thanks

Any news when this may get fixed? It's a small irritation to remember this workaround as some files take upto 10 minutes to load..

                Many thanks,

No ETA yet, unfortunately. I'll be sure to update the thread as it's available.
To ensure you will not crash, simply turn back on the "render hidden lights" option in the render settings, and proceed to turn lights on and off via scene explorer/light lister.

The Stable nightly available here (and the subsequent versions) have this bug fixed.
