  • possible issue with vray clipper

maybe it´s technically not possible or something else is going onI don't know about, but the two obj. are having two infinite clipperplanes - with little offset.
but the one in behind the camera is making the corresponding obj. hollow. I don't get flat caps on both obj. Also the material then here changes from assigned one to wire color - here turkis for instance.
Both Obj. are editable Polys only. Latest Vray Version.

Hi I tested what you are describing in a new simple scene. This is the result:

Could you confirm I am testing correctly? The red geometry is excluded from the clipper that is further away from the camera.
I think this is a bug but I will check more carefully and get back to you.

Hi Vladimir, yes with 2 clippers in scene, each other has to include only the corresponding object, or exclude the ones not to do so.
seems that I can confirm it. Red box is also here non capped. If you shift the clipper on the other side of the other, will it be the opposite case? Red box capped and Blue box open?

      thanks!

Hi Vladimir, don´t want to push, but is there any workaround on that bug? It is more easy to work with the clipper instead of getting boolians, wich are then tricky, or client want changes wich means more work on boolians (even they are rendering faster then the Clipper ones)

Hi, I will try to find a workaround. This seems as a bug with the VRayClipper

Hi you have to exclude the corresponding VRayClippers together with the geometry that they clip for this setup to work.

In this example the closer slipper excludes the blue box. The further away clipper excludes the red box and the closer clipper.

This is what I get if I do not exclude the closer clipper:

I hope this works as workaround for now. Meanwhile I will investigate and eventually report this behaviour.

Hi Vladimir, yes, I tried it a few times and it didn´t work - BUT maybe I mismatched something and I missed a thing... I´ll try it. In my eyes of view, it should work like that of course.

              I´ll be back...

                  Hi,

In this example the closer slipper excludes the blue box. The further away clipper excludes the red box and the closer clipper.

interesting, how did you get that? Yes, that is the result being as expected. But I tried it once again also at it´s implies manner. I am having still the bug here, that exploding outerbox from clipper 1 and excluding inner box from clipper 2 still remains one open at it´s shell border.
having here latest vRay version.. may you used an older/ working one ( or a new beta...=)?

This is what I get if I do not exclude the closer clipper:

Click image for larger version Name:	3dsmax_2022-05-09_15-44-28.jpg Views:	14 Size:	168.4 KB ID:	1147529

this is what you should probably not get - or I am getting here: if one box removed an include motion, this clipper directly takes both boxes synchronized. But not possible to have different depthsteps included

                  My latest test:

Hi I did a quick video with the workaround in your scene.

                      Heya!... that simple..

EDIT: no, I misunderstood the point you explained... sorry!

                      thanks Vladimir!

edit: wouldn´t it make sense to give that an automatic exclusion under the clippers? don´t know yet, still have to think about it...

It would make sense that is why I reported it as an issue in our bug tracking system. Until the fix is done we can use this method as a workaround.
