  • File crashes when placing a Vray camera

3ds Max randomly crashes when placing a vray camera. Very frustrating. I can be working, place a camera...then place another and it locks up and crashes. Very random.

Hi is this happening in every scene even a new simple scene? What versions of V-Ray and 3dsmax are you using?

No...not every scene. It's random. It has been an issue since vray 5 though. I'm currently using 3ds max 2023...and the latest version of vray.

How are you creating the cameras?

Camera > Vray > Vrayphysicalcamera click and drag and place. Is there another way?

            Indeed, the toolbar.
If you create the camera via toolbar from, say, a perspective view, it gets automatically aligned and the view becomes that of the camera.
Otherwise, it can be aligned, when selected, by pressing ctrl+c in the perspective view to align to. Then one needs to switch the view to that of the camera.

If it was due to the buttons, then perhaps with a lot less code it'd have been easier to find out.
As it is, we'd have to have a dump file of when max crashes (found in your temp folder, called 3dsmax.dmp) to find out why that is happening.
Should max crash on you again, please try and send a copy to support, mentioning this thread.
