It doesn't work in Maya as well. VRayScene nodes contain more than geometry, so that's probably why. Is there a specific reason for doing so? You can always render the .vrscene separately and comp it in post.
We will be really happy if this will work. We have to work with assets as vrscenes and incorporate it inside our stuff. Using render mask in this case its just a workaround of anodher bug, visible lights in enviroment fog on matte objects. So as I said we will be really happy if we dont have to look for workaround for workaround of some bug
