  • Textures in the material editor look dull with ACES

I have followed the official guide in the Vray docs for using ACES and I found that my textures and materials in the material editor look dull. Please check the screenshot below. Notice how the texture and the material preview look dull/desaturated compared to the vivid colors of the texture I've loaded. It looks practically green when the original texture is reddish in color. I have not made any color corrections to the map after loading it in the material editor. Am I doing something wrong?

I'd assume you'd need to render it to the VFB to see how it looks under proper ACEScg tranforms.
The material editor in max isn't OCIO color managed, but plain sRGB, so unable to display the ACEScg gamut properly.

Really?? Wow. That sucks baaad. No workaround for this? Can Vray not do the sRGB to ACES conversion at render time to avoid this stupid Autodesk issue?

We can only pass a bitmap to the material editor.
You'll notice the rendered bitmap, in our VFB, needs the OCIO config set right, to look proper.
We don't have the option in the material editor, just yet.

Does that mean that something is in the works to alleviate this?
