  • multimatte and vrayblendmtl, no soft edges!

ive got a scene using vrayblendmtl to mix between different terrain materials. driven by distance tex, with invisible geometry to define the different areas.

this works fine, and i have a soft edge between the materials due to the radius of the distance tex.

however, the multimattes i have for these various materials (using materialID) have hard edges.

    this is not good!

    how to resolve this issue?

so the only element ive seen that isolates the material correctly is vraymtlselect..
... not ideal since i need one for each material, but itll do.

There is a pending Jira about this (VMAX-10476), i'll bump it with the devs.
p.s.: this has always been the behaviour, btw.

Update on this: it's a complex affair, not easily solvable (it'd require important changes to shaders to work.).
You're better off with material select REs for the time being.
