  • poor Matte object sampling

If i have a ground plane with a soft shadow cast on it, or an extratex element for an AO pass, if the object is visible in scene, the sampling of the shadows or AO is fine. The moment i change the object into a matte object, the shadow sampling is tons worse and never seems to clean up however long i leave the render going. this happens with the extratex/dirt map even if "consider for AA" is enabled.

This comes up every single time i use a matte object in a project.. its been a problem since forever and never seems to get fixed. I cant imagine people doing product or automotive find this acceptable... maybe there is a workaround?

Try to add color to the shadow, this will force antialising to work.

yeah, that must be an issue with progressive sampler, I've never seen that problem in bucket mode.
