  • Vray 6 crashes on GPU, and fails to initialize on Max start

I posted the following on the general forum but apparently, no one cares so here it is in the issue section.

I can't get Vray 6 to work properly on a fresh install of 3ds max 2022. It shows the following error.

    An error occurred during initialization.
    "VRAY_FOR_3DSMAX2022_MAIN". Please re-install
It is recommended that you exit the application and reinstall V-Ray now

No matter how many times I reinstall (with admin access) it still throws the same error. I then tried to test a scene and it doesn't render anything or crashes.
    System specs: Win 11 Pro, i9 9900K, RTX 3090Ti, 64 GB DDR4, 3Ds Max 2022.3.3, VRay 60004, NVIDIA driver 516.59

Let's see if we get any response here.

    Thanks

Something must have messed up your Environment Variables (System Properties>Environment Variables). Delete everything V-Ray-related and reinstall again.

I resolved the issue by running Max in admin mode, so it works and does not crash. I think for now I'll just keep it safe because VRay doesn't run or crashes without admin privilege. Weird, but at least it works now.
