Actually it has been like this since V-Ray Next, no change in that direction. I was just explaining why there's a difference between running from local Max and from BB on the same machine
Yavor is Vray next and Vray 5 two different renderers? I only ask because I came from the lastest Vray5 to Vray6 so this is my only reference for software fuction/performance/etc..
Thanks as always,
I gotta say, it sure seems like something changed with VRay6. We never had these problems with version 5.
Also, when we have experienced this problem we went to the task manager and set the affinity to literally ONE core. The machine was still very slow.
It felt like an interrupt thing, or something with higher priority than the mouse. The mouse was hardly controllable with about 1/2 sec or more lag.
And this is on MULTIPLE machines.Even on dual Intel Gold 6858R machines! I think the denoiser (Intel) may have made it worse, but they are still slow without the denoiser.

Agreed. My Vray5 always ran perfect. Vray6 on render farm makes any computer trash. Not an old feature, this is 100% Vray6 stuff only.
Yeah, this needs to be rectified asap. Is there an environment variable to set this thread priority low even when net rendering? Why can't the USER set this?
Setting VRAY_NUM_THREADS had no effect.Perhaps Deadline overrides the environment? I tried both user and system wide environment vars. There should be some way for the user to set this per render node. For instance nobody would ever want a machine that might be interacted with by a user to be like this. VRay5 was never like this, at least when run by 3dsmaxcmd.exe
Setting affinity for 3dsMax has no effect (other than to reduce render speed and CPU usage)-- however it still lags the hell out of the machine, no matter what the hardware.

I really think this is a regression in VRay6.
Agreed. I tried to remove CPU Cores from using 3d max and no affect. This hurts being able to multi task. Please just do what you did in Vray 5 and apply it to 6, no need to be fancy and rewrite code for what was already working perfectly fine.
Hope the Chaos admins can understand our frustration, I am trying to do client work and am now worried about system perforamance when doing renders in background.
Any update on this? Chaos, you really can't reproduce the mouse lagging and unusable machine?
If you are convinced this is just thread priority and has been like this since Version 5 then can we get an environment variable to set all thread priority to idle (if this actually is the issue) into the dailies? It literally takes about 5 mins for an artist to be able to use their machine again because it takes that long to login and disable the render worker each morning. We need this as an ENV var so that we can at least set this for workstations.
As I already said above - we are looking for a solution. I just don't want to promise anything before we get it into a build you could test. Hopefully tomorrow's stable nightly build should have some improvements.
Thank you for the reply, Yavor. This is just impacting productivity quite a bit, and stress levels are high under a horrible deadline. Please ping back here when something is in the nightlies. Thanks.
At first, it didnĀ“t look like much of an improvement BUT after I updated my operating system with today's NET Framework and restarted the machine, everything works flawless and smooth!
Thank you guys for fixing it, this Vray version rocks!
Good work.
