  • Is "option_clampTextures" working?

I set "option_clampTextures = false" to disable Diffuse Clamp in VRayMtl for some reason, but VRayMtl will not output a Diffuse Color that is not clamped. (VRayColor is set to Diffuse.)

VRayAlsurfaceMrl will output HDR Diffuse colors.

I understand the following comment by Mr.Vlado. I am talking about a case where I want to disable the Diffuse Clamp in VRayMtl for a reason.

    Confirmed with V-Ray 6, hotfix1 and 3dsmax 2023
I am attaching the test max file.

Sorry to say, the parameter is obsolete.

So is there any way to output Diffuse in VRayMtl without Clamping?
      And Negative color etc?

I want to do shading, so can't use self illumination slots.

Not sure about the diffuse clamp, but perhaps you could use a VRayBlend in Additve mode and to add the unclamped value onto the shading done with a grey diffuse? Not sure if that clamps negative values or not.

          hi, Joelaff

As you can see, VRayMtl cannot output a Diffuse greater than 1.0 even in VRayBlend's Additve mode. (attach file)
VRayBlend's Additve option also appears to be clamped, despite the warning.

Most users don't need this feature, but advanced users (NPR rendering, etc.) I would like to see the non-physical shading option remain as well.

I am sad that V-Ray is going architecture specific , please be more flexible for VFX.

Interesting, and unfortunate. I agree, we need more options to break the physical rules when necessary.

Sorry to say, at this point, there isn't a way, except to use the AlSurface shader.

                Okay. Understood.

Note that Diffuse is not clamped on the ARNOLD Standard Surface.
