  • DOF does not affect reflections

I've noticed that a reflective object in front of the camera (like a plane glass) with DOF activated is still reflecting straight and clean as it is not out of focus.
you can see it from the image below.

Hi this is normal - the distance to the door's corner is taken trough the reflection and not to it. So the distance between the camera and the reflected door is a lot larger than from the camera to the reflective table.
Here is a wildlife photography as an example of a water surface that reflects both blurred and sharp objects.
There is also an older tread about you question - https://forums.chaos.com/forum/chaos...in-reflections

Wow that's crazy, I didn't realize this is realistic behavior.

It is not that obvious. We actually had a friendly argument here in the office.
In the end a colleague of ours Martin.Minev tested this setup in real life and confirmed that the rendered image is correct and physically accurate.

The focus distance of the lens in this case is close to distance from the camera to the reflective object + the distance from the reflective object to the door. Thus the door should indeed be in focus.

You can see this when focusing a real lens, as Vladimir mentions.

Yeah it's an interesting effect actually, but logic in a way, just never paid attention to it.
