  • Possible bug with proxies...

    Hello
I'm placing large amounts os vray proxies.
I already have points in the place whre this proxies should be.
I'm talking about 10.000 points separated 10 or 15 groups.
I have a script that calls "instancereplace" to replace de point nodes for the actual vray proxy.
Works fine but....after I replace some point groups this get very slow when I try to select the next group to replace.
It's slow just to select!! The script itself works great.
So...just thought that might has something to do with the proxies that slows things down.
Maybe it as something to do with the fact that they were instanced or with the geometry in the file because I've used a similar number of them (with much heavier geometry) with no problems.
Well....is you want I can send you a test file.
    Thanks

Well...used the script with the real geometry and no problems
There are total of 6588 insertions of 15 base objects.
Each object is about 350 polygons.
I don't think the problem has the proxies geometry because the objects I used here were taken from this files using the VRMeshToMax script.
Shouldn't the proxies in box mode handle this???

What does your script look like? I suppose the proxy draw/select code is not the fastest in the world, but it may be a maxscript problem too.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

          Hello Vlado!
          Here's a scene to exemplify.

          http://clientes.netvisao.pt/ruquita/Proxytest.zip

The vrmesh files were in a diferent location but I guess they can be in the same as the scene right?
I also attached the script I used in the zip
I'm still using max 6 thought...I've been affraid to change to 7 but maybe I should try it.
Hope you can help because I don't know how I can handle this slowliness
          Thanks

hey...wasn't there a change in the proxies in the 1.47.02 version??
I remember having 15 or more 100000 polygon trees instanced 10000 times and no major problems.
            I'll try to downgrade vray...

Nope, there haven't been any changes in the last builds. Of course, checking it always helps.

              Best regards,

                Hello Vlado!
I installed version 1.46.15 and the problem is still there.
                Must I uninstall before reinstalling??
Can you please tell me if you can open the files I sent.
Maybe my max installation got currupted :-S

                Here's an image I did a while ago...10000 tress...lot more individual objects and....+100000 each tree...not 350..
It was a little slow of course but it didn't hang like now with only a thousand proxies...and I'm reaching the deadline :-S

It may very well be that your Max install is corrupted in some way. My coworker is working with similar numbers of vray proxies at the moment. On his computer he experiences the same sort of lag that you describe but on every other computer it does not occur, they are all essentially the same as his, so it is difficult to figure out why it is happening.

Hope we figgure it out because he keeps messing up my UI :P

                    Thanks Eric
It was the max intallation indeed
No error windows....nothing...just the danm clock cursor
                    Ok...I'm in business again
                    Thanks

Cool, glad you got it worked out

That's quite a scene you got going there, very impressive, it wasn't that long ago that it was tuff to render just a few geometry trees. HEheh

Have you added up the polys? I don't have the exact numbers but I think our's is pushing about 16 billion in trees and another few billion in structures, alot of them are instanced but still pretty amazing what is possible with the proxies.
