  • VrayPointCloudColor map not rendering in VRay 6

    I've imported coloured pointclouds using the 3ds Max Pointcloud object and applied a VRay material with a VrayPointCloudColor map assigned to the Selfillumination slot.
    The pointcloud colours render fine in VRay 5 but get ignored in VRay 6.

    Setup: 3ds Max 2023.2.2, VRay 60021, tested with .laz, .ply and .rcp pointclouds

      Thanks. While preparing a dummy scene illustrating the issue (can't send the original one), I noticed the issue dissapeared when creating a new scene from scratch. So something in my template scene broke the compatibility for pointcloud rendering in VRay 6.
      Will post here if/when I find out what caused this incompatibility.

        I've had a further look into this issue and have noticed that the problem with the pointcloud colors not rendering still pops up, even in completely new scenes.
        I've submitted an example scene via the support request form.

          Just as a short update (as others may also have encountered this issue): reliable pointcloud rendering gets broken when adding a LightMix render element.
          And thanks to the great support from the Chaos team, they are currently looking into this!
