  • Color2bump bug?

    Hi,

With the latest update we've seen a bug crop up, atleast I'm asuming it's a bug. See image for setup, the issue is when placing a color2bump after a vrayedgetex all the edges get rounded. These are materials built and tested quite recently, so it seems to have started in one of the recent updates.

Is it a bug, or a wrong workflow? We've got a colour2bump on the earlier concrete map to increase that part, but assumed we could increase all the bumps with the additional color2bump that is linked into the material bump slot.

Not sure if this would be the correct way to built up your material, but what happens if you remove the vrayedgestex, and instead wire the material into a VrayBmpMtl and put the VrayEdgesTex in there.

Also it's a bit weird that you use VrayColor2Bump twice, the edgestex doesn't need an extra Color2bump afaik.

Yeah if the 2nd colour2bump doesn't have an effect on the edgetex then it can be removed which fixes the issue. It was just that I noticed the error recently and it wasn't doing it before. I think our "thought process" was to have the colour2bump at the material input to make sure it has the most effect and keep a consistency in our material hierarchy, as we have other material setups without the edgetex. If someone from chaos can confirm either way then we can update our materials where needed.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding the issue. From what I've tested, the VRayEdgesTex uses the edges part if plugged in a VRayColor2Bump, whereas it uses the Rounded corners if plugged directly into the bump slot (or in a VRayBumpMtl). Which effect do you wish?

          Hi hermit.crab

We use the edgetex to get rounded corners. But if I'm reading your reply correctly, the function is how it is intended and we are using it wrong. So we should never add a colour2bump between the vrayedgetext and bump slot if we want to have the rounded corners effect.

Yes, exactly. Use the VRayBumpMtl method instead.
