  • ACES and white background

How do you get a pure white background when using aces workflow and the environment color or map slot? I have an object with no background, the alpha is correct, and I make the env color pure white, but it renders around rgb of 221. Ive tried adding vray color to env slot, but that doesnt work either. Surely the white slot, should be pure 255 regardless of the color space? Also, why does changing the color space of vray color cause this : (click image to start gif)

The short answer is: try until you manage it.
The long version: the ACEScg ODT is a mystery that the ACES group won't reveal. It does tonal compression plus contrast, in unfathomable, non-linear ways.

Color slot: it's correct, in its being wrong. It's because the color slot is Max's, and Max isn't color managed, so you can't represent ACEScg encoded material in it.
