  • Boken Render

I am dying here! I can only render if I turn on the VFB % thing to something like 75% or lower. Turning it off , or anything higher than 75% produces black renders. I rebooted MAX, Windows, and it was working just fine before today. Hours of troubleshotting that I simply don't have.

My second camera rendered fine, so it is a camera issue. I'll replace the other camera and try again. I think the other camera is a physical camera. I had a hunch and converted the second camera into a V-Ray camera.

Displacement set to screen-space, most likely.
So the reduced resolution, and different camera, manage to render it.
As a guideline, try and raise the edge length by 1.5 or 2 times, and see if the render works.

Same issue, different project. Replacing the camera does the trick. Global displacement was turned off, and it was still crashing. It took me all day to figure out it was the same issue.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with cameras, or displacement. I can set the VFB % to anything, even above 110%, and it renders fine. Turning off the percentage is when things crash.

We'll need a scene to figure this out, whenever you've got the time.

It is a pretty large scene. What does % actually do? Is is just dimensions?

yeah, it just multiplies the render size.

Gotcha, thank you. I am not sure what is up. Now everything is rendering fine, without issues or crashes. I think Windows 11 is bonkers in user privileges. I am a local admin and every folder and file is read only, and I can't change it. Either that or McAfee screwed things up, even after uninstalling it. Oh well, thanks for the help.

Windows drives me mad sometimes with read only files. Even with 10 it's often a battle to insist on them being MINE! LOL
Every time I manage to make it work I then forget how I did it and have to get mad again the next time it happens

Yeah, it is a nighmare. Administrator is even turned off on Windows 11. There is a command line to enable it. An administrators account should have no restrictions at all, in my opinion. It should be called Super User, or Pro User.

I rendered eleven houses in this scene, without issue. All 4K, no noise, thirty minutes per house. I went back to that first camera and crash! I copied the second camera over to replace the first and it rendered fine. Yesterday I created a new camera, and it worked, so something is corrupting that camera. I had to re-render becasue yesterday I forgot to correct the perspective. This happened with another project, too.
