  • 'Invalid VRayPluginNode' warning?

I have a (somewhat) legacy scene that, when I open, gives me a warning about "VRayPluginNode: unsupported plugin(s) detected".

    Which brings a few questions:
    • Is there a list of old VRayPluginNode plugins that are now unsupported for 3dsMax?
    • Can I check through MaxScript automatically if a certain VRayPluginNode plugin is unsupported?
    • How does VRay treat an unsupported plugin?
    Thanks in advance!

I get that in brand new scenes where a VrayPluginTex is used. Everything created in 2023 with VRay 6 31954.

The scenes still behave and render correctly otherwise.

You can ignore the message. Check the yellow paragraph on the docs page.

The only problem is that my recent scene and materials that showed this error were all created from scratch in the same version of Vray 6. No legacy materials at all. No legacy objects.

I manually added a VRayPluginNodeTex node for use with VrayDisplacement.

So I don’t think the note in the yellow box applies, or is accurate in this case. And I have a seen this before in other scenes created entirely in VRay6.

No issues here. Just tested it on a fresh scene. Wild guess: maybe you have a shader with the node in a material library?

I do have a shader with that node in an open material library, but it is the material I made with vray 6 hotfix 3 ( recent nightly)

I only get the warning when I open a scene that has the plug-in, and we are talking scenes made with a recent vray.

Is a scene helpful? Or will that not tell you the issue?

Perhaps it comes from merging an object with the node into a new scene.

Also note the scenes I have been having this issue with lately have the plug-in Tex connected to a VrayDisplacementMod in case that makes a difference… they are not connected to any other material.

Merging might be it. If you can reproduce the issue on a fresh scene, do attach it.
