  • Old material, translucency menu changing when creating a new vraymtl

It's a bit hard to explain so I made a video. Here: https://youtu.be/5w-JUeRoCLc

    Sorry for the shitty cropping.

    - Material from Maxtree model > Made in older vray version
    - When checking Material for first time the translucency menu is what I believe the older menu
    - When creating a new VrayMtl and checking the translucency there it's the new version
    - When checking back to the "older" material the menu changed to the new one
    - And this is for all materials that follow.

    Is this normal behaviour?

In which V-Ray version was the old shader made? Usually, it should only disappear if you willingly switch to a non-legacy mode, but it seems the old SSS matches the new one, hence why it's automatically overridden. I'll do some more testing too.

Sorry I have no idea, this is an asset of Maxtree I don't know which version they used to create their mats.

Could you attach a simple scene with a sphere and the shader in question so we can troubleshoot?

Hi, any news on this? I just tried to convert an old material manually, by selecting thin walled and SSS but the dropdown for directional or uniform is greyed out. I can't choose it, not even when 'refreshing' the material.

edit: Yeah it's definitely weird, when creating a new material and changing some things around, sometimes this menu also starts greying out, when refreshing the material (unselect - select), it shows it not greyed out again. I even tried Zorb to change the setting of the old materials but I can't seem to find which setting to set it to nothing's changing.
edit2: I see it has to do with affect shadows needing to be on, but it's weird even in the new material it sometimes doesn't work with that on. Really need to check that out.
edit 3: See screenshot, affect shadows is off and I can change the Illumination method anyway, so pretty inconsistent.

Regarding the Affect Shadows: "The new translucency modes require GI with minimum 16 bounces (brute force or light cache). They also require the Affect shadows option of the material to be enabled."

Not sure what's causing the UI issue. It does not seem to happen on my end. Maybe the script you used messed up with the parameters.
