  • Creating VRayPhysicalCamera crashes Max

I didn't really have the time the to exactly describe the steps to reproduce this issue, but since it happens to me every week, so I'm assuming other users have experienced it as well.

    1. Being in a Perspective Viewport, go to Create Tab/Cameras/VRay
    2. Click VrayPhysicalCamera button
    2. Start to drag the mouse in the Viewport
    3. 3ds Max crashes after a few seconds pending

If you can't reproduce it, some additional info:
I'm often using VRay GPU, so maybe this also has something to do with it

    Best,
    Gabor

Hi, is your scene convert from Corona render?

      Hello,

When Max crashes it will create a crash dump 3dsmax_minidump.dmp in your temp folder. Can you share it (here or to our support) ?

      Best regards,

yavor.rubenov I uploaded the dump file here: https://we.tl/t-mJDBnaTDPL
        Thanks in advance!

jackieteh There was no conversion from Corona. There were Physical materials involved, but I converted them to VRayMtl.

Have you try import your current scene into a new max file?

Also - do you happen to have instanced cameras in the scene ?

jackieteh Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think it has to do with anything in the file, it might be an internal VRayPhysicalCamera issue, because it happens in various files, regularly.

In the meantime I believe I managed to reproduce the bug, I'll post the steps soon.

                yavor.rubenov No instanced cameras.

Here are steps to reproduce the bug. I hope this helps to resolve it.

                1. Create a new VRayPhysicalCamera in the viewport
                2. Enable Automatic vertical tilt correction
                3. Deselect the camera
(The newly created objects always inherit the setup of the last selected VRayPhysicalCamera)
                4. Click on Create new VRayPhysicalCamera
                5. Start dragging on the viewport: 3ds Max crashes

                Another way to reproduce it:
                1. Click on Create new VRayPhysicalCamera
                2. Before starting to drag on viewport, ativate Automatic vertical tilt correction
                3. Create the camera by dragging on viewport: 3ds Max crashes

So all in all it is caused by Automatic vertical tilt correction being enabled while a Camera is being created

Built-in PhysicalCamera also has this feature, but it does not produce this crash

** Added: if the camera is being created like this on a hidden layer, it does not cause crash

We've reproduced it and it has been logged as VMAX-13173 in our bug-tracking system. Thanks for reporting it!
