  • Bug - Chaos Cosmos replaces proxies

    Hi all,

I've had this issue happen twice now.

Sometimes when I open a file I will get a prompt from Chaos Cosmos saying that some assets are missing and need to be re-downloaded. So I click OK and it re-downloads them...

It then proceeds to replace OTHER vray proxies that are TOTALLY UNRELATED to the content it has downloaded with items it has downloaded. For example all of my trees and grass in my scene have now been replaced with one of the chaos cosmos assets.

As you can imagine, in a scene with dozens and dozens of proxies this is INCREDIBLY time consuming to go back and fix!

It appears (though I haven't tested) to only do this to vray proxy items that have the VrayProxy prefix.

Also unrelated - I can't resize the "choose external mesh file" dialogue when trying to re-map to the correct proxies.

    Hello,

Is it possible that you imported some Cosmos asset and then edited the V-Ray Proxy for that asset to point to another file ?

    Best regards,

      Hi Yavor,

No. That isn't possible. This has only happened when I have opened a file with existing proxies with the VrayProxy prefix (because they were converted to proxies using the .vrmesh exporter with automatically create proxies ticked) and chaos cosmos prompts for missing files to be downloaded.

I have no way of changing multiple proxy files en-masse.

      Kind regards,
      Chris

Then could you share some of the offending scenes to our support ?

Forgot to mention - it would be great if you have a saved copy of the scene before the chaos cosmos prompt and mess up.

We have a theory on what happens and a possible fix we would like to test.

I'm afraid I don't have a before scene, and the only after scenes that I have are ones that I have fixed manually. I can still send of course, if they are of any use?

I've run tests to day to try to replicate the issue but haven't managed to - yet!

Yep even the manually fixed scene could help

Alright, I'll archive them later and send them over. Do you want me to PM you the wetransfer link, or email it?

Stable nightly builds 32056 from today (https://nightlies.chaos.com/main#/vr...e_6.1/20230428) should have a fix for this situation. In the fixed builds we've added several improvements in regards to the issue:
                    - we check if the assets can be resolved or not - so for example if a scene is packed with all the assets we will no longer prompt for updates. Previously we only checked the Cosmos library
                    - we've added some more safety checks to avoid replacing any proxy that is not exactly the Cosmos asset we want to replace.

                    Sorry again for the inconvenience.
