  • Making a proxy unique makes parts of it permanently invisible

Hi. I've noticed that making a proxy object unique makes some of the rollouts disappear. Namely, the proxy mesh, hair and particle visibility rollouts. Sometimes I hide parts of the proxy through the "proxy mesh visibility" rollout and when I make the proxy unique, this rollout disappears and I can no longer make these hidden parts visible again. Even if I set the hidden objects to "visible" in the "Object hierarchy" rollout, the objects previously hidden via "proxy mesh visibility" are still hidden.

Hey Alex_M, This is probably a scene that has been saved with an older V-Ray version. Visibility lists are now only available for scenes saved with an older version where such functionality was used. The idea is that you can still use the visibility lists for these proxy objects. For newly created proxies the visibility can be toggled on/off in the hierarchy rollout. You can first uncheck the exclude option in the visibility list, than proceed with making the proxy unique and you will be able to hide/unhide parts in the Object hierarchy rollout.

Thanks for the reply, Tanya. I'll keep this in mind. I still think this is a problem though. A user might overlook this and forget to unhide all parts from the old rollouts before making a proxy unique. Maybe all hidden parts should automatically be made visible upon making an older proxy object unique, or at least a warning pop-up?

I agree, I've logged it as an issue in our bug-tracking system as VMAX-13291.

As a workaround you can resave the scene and reopen it. This way the visibility lists should show up.
