Slow movement VraySun with VraySky in environment active

This gif shows what is up. With a VraySky active in environment the moving of the sun is slow, with it inactive it's normal. The background of my viewport has been set to just gradient so it shouldn't show / slow down performance. I must say I don't recall having this in my own scenes (this is a scene from a tree model). The background initially was set to 'sync with display mode' and that displayed the vray sky at first.
