  • Darktree materials with "transparency" don't get G

    ...on my new pc
    Hello.
Well...I frequently add a transparency parameter to my darktree materials and it works well but in my new computer (and other pc I tried) these materials appear black in the GI pass.
I have an "ABIT" motherboard and a nVidia GeForce 6600 GT...
    Maybe some problem with drivers?!!
    Anyone experiencing this??
    Thanks

Well i can tell you know, that your new computer has nothing to do with it.
When your render the video card has nothing to do with the outcome. The video card only affects the viewport speed.

Aside from that , i dont know, never worked with Darktree. But i would suggest you look at your material setup.

        Thanks

MIND that there are some SHADOW types which are NOT supported by VRay...

Try switching to VRay Shadow in your light sources...

Ok...the problem is really with the darktree materials.
(damn!! now and don't know where the problem cames from )
Objects with darktree materials don't cast shadows and if the darktree material has transparency it doesn't receive GI.
I don't think it's necessary to see any scene...a simple plane and box with a darktree material in the box can show this.
And there should be nothing wrong with the scene because I tried scenes from the older PC where everything is working fine.
The strange thing is that I already had things working in this PC but because I had some problems I reinstalled windows and...kaput
So...I think it must have something to do with drivers or some windows settings
Well...I really would like to have this thing going again..
              Any idea where to look?
              Thanks

                RSF:
Mate it has nothing to do with drivers or windows settings!!!
When you render the 3dsmax just renders the scene. You could have different cpus, motherboards, video cards, soundcards...different drivers...whatever...it would make no difference to the rendered out put. YOu might see a difference in the viewport display but thats all.

The problem is to do with either vray, your scene, your materials or your settings. Thats all.

Are you using both the exact same version of max on vray on both machines?

Put it this way you could install windows Xpsp1, and not install any drivers at all. so the video card is detected as a standard vga and there would be lots of unknown devices in Device Manager, and your scene would still render exactly the same. Only the CPU and RAM are used for rendering!!

Well...in that case they're exactly the same
But remenber that things sometimes are connected...this seams a lot like the "decimal symbol" issue...where you had to change this in the windows settings...althought I already checked this and nothing changed
This is very strange...and now it can be a vray or simbiont problem.
The strangest thing is that I had this working on this computer but them I reinstalled windows again "a pro sp2 version" and updated all the drivers for motherboard, graphics card...and...kaput
And remember that I also installed 3ds and simbiont in another computer recent computer and the same thing happened...so...it's not just this one.
Well...any idea what could be checked?
                  Thanks

Like i said im not sure about the actual problem as i havnt really used darktree materials before.

How about you post a part of the scene that exhibits the problem and I (and others) will have a look at it and see if we can fix it for you.

                      Hello DaForce
                      Ok!! Here it goes.

                      http://clientes.netvisao.pt/ruquita/xxx.rar

This is rendered in the old pc:

And this in the new one:

Well...I was hopping it had something to do with the old "decimal symbol" but not...and now...I have no clue..

                      Thanks again

OK, I was able to render it just fine with shadows.

                        So,
What version of max do you have?
What version of vray are you using?
What version of simbiont are you using?

                            Hello guys...thanks for the help.
                            I found the problem
I seams that there is a bug in the simbiont they're releasing for max 6 and 7.
Fortunatly I had the old file, only for max 6 but it works fine on 7.
If I didn't had a copy of the old file I don't know how I could solve this.
The other file in simbiont site is for max 5 and earlier
I'll write to the darktree guys.
                            Thanks anyway

Well i used the max6/7 simbiont and it renders fine here!! So I dont think that is the problem either.
I just downloaded and installed it this morning purely to test out your scene.
