Waiting for a render to terminate is killing me. It takes at least a minute each time, and I can stop and start a rendering a dozen times an hour. What gives?

With GPU, I have been waiting five minutes for the render to stop. There are a lot of stop/start, so this is a killer for production.Bobby Parker

Yeh Ive always wished I could kill a render a lot faster. When you have a scene with ALOT of displacement, if you set off a render, and realise you need to cancel, you can be waiting a few mins before it will respond to a cancel instruction. It actually makes me use displacement less these days.

With GPU, even switching render engines doesn't cancel the render. The VFB seems to freeze and after 10 minutes I have to kill MAX.Bobby Parker

I think in an ideal world if you want to use gpu for rendering you have to have two of them, one that acts purely for displaying to monitors and one for rendering. I don't think gpu is capable of doing both no matter how powerful. At least in my experience, even with other renderers like redshift, when gpu was rendering everything else became unusable for the time of render. Same goes for cancelling the render.Dmitry Vinnik

I don’t think I can fit much more than one GPU, unless it is a single slot card. Any good recommendations for a single slot card for my monitor?

If I absolutely know it's going to be a nightmare to kill the render, timewise, then what I do is save before hitting 'go' and just kill the program instead, as it's often way quicker than
waiting for the 'process' to complete. It happened with a big animation recently and it was my only option for continued sanity

Except I use PSD Manager, which needs the render to complete.Bobby Parker

The DR issue has to be MAX because if I do nothing except reboot MAX, it’ll work.Bobby Parker

Hi, I moved a few posts in a new thread here.
There are some issues mentioned within the off-topic posts unfortunately.
That is the reason I humbly ask anyone that has an issue or is not sure about something to open a separate thread or support ticket and please keep every post on topic with the specific thread and section.
Please explain your issue with details and don't quit answering when we ask questions. The issues that come up nowadays are becoming more and more difficult to trouble shoot.
Very often there are a few factors that need to line up so the issues can reproduce so we can investigate them and fix them.Last edited by vladimir_krastev; 18-09-2023, 06:36 AM.
