  • Random Black Squares/Buckets with DR off?

I seem to have random black buckets on my machine as if i am using network nodes but I am not. How can this be possible. If a texture was missing it would affect everything. It seems to only affect very low light regions.... and oddly, the missing black squares are NOT always the same size as my bucket size? Anyone ever heard of anything like this before?

I have a 96 core machine with VRAY_NUM_THREADS set to 90.... is this why?

90 cores, do you mean threads? If you had 90 cores you would have 180 threads. Do we still need to set the variable like this? I have 44 threads, and without doing anything, V-Ray sees them all. Sorry, not a solution for you .

So it appears that VRayLightMat was applied to TyFlow and the Tyflow object has send and receive shadows on, so there was some bounce nuance there or something. Tried disabling shadow casting but not yet fixed. Tried upping probabilistic lights. Nope to that.

Is "Transfer missing assets" (Render Setup> Settings> Distributed Rendering) checked? Any errors on the slave machines?

It's a local render, I'm not using DR.
I thought it was an issue of TyFlow but I'm having the same problems in reflections in another scene.

We'd be keen on obtaininga scene that misbehaves.

Here is a scene with the issue. The other one includes a confidential model so I'm not able to share it.

Yep merbrich…. That’s exactly what’s happening in my scene. So weird. Maybe it can be so artifact of probabilistic lighting?

Without a scene, we can't help but guess. The invite to share a problematic one is extended to you too!

I will email you a link, even the simplified file is still large... interesting thing though is that i am simplifying it and the spots remove. So i am going to wait to send until i figure out why. Could be an HDR or some strange texture setting.... killing all textures fixes it.

Please try raising Min AA subdivs to something like 4. You shouldn't get black buckets in low-light areas this way.

Looking at log, i see this error recurring.... very odd. It appears elsewhere in forum too....

Ahah, that's an assert from V-Ray. That's an internal path.

Olli's right: if you have a min AA of 1 you may end up missing the thin/dark features in the scene.
A min of 2 or 3 is likely more than enough to find what you need.
