  • Issue with VRay Volume grids scattered with Chaos Scatter

    Hi All,

As the title suggests, I'm having some render issues crop up when using Chaos Scatter to distribute cloud VDBs loaded into a VRay Volume Grid. If you look at the attached image, you can see that I'm getting some annoying block artefacts in my render.

My theory is that it might be the volume grids intersecting in my scatter. I've tried rendering three volume grids overlapping each other and didn't get any issues, so I'm guessing it's an issue that only crops up when using Chaos Scatter.

Does anyone have any tips or advice that might help solve the issue?

VRay 6, update 1.2, rendering in GPU mode

    Thanks,

It's a limitation, I'm afraid. No more than 4 volumes that overlap at the same position in space can be rendered. Otherwise, there might be artifacts or missing VolumeGrids. The only current workaround is to render in CPU.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out, Aleksander. I'll try spreading them out a bit more and see if that fixes it.

I did suspect it might be an issue with VRay GPU. I tried rendering it on CPU, but it just sat there compiling instances, so I gave up.

      Thanks for the help,

      Andy
