  • lightcache bug?

    hi,

1º i create a box from viewport perspective and after a plane or box that touch base of the box from viewport perspective
2º box set visibility to 0.5, in Rendering Control of Object Properties
3º set render in lightCache in primary and second bounce none
4º default lifghts unchecked and GI enviroment check override MAX´s
5º push button render when build light cache (current task) is infinite time.

    i test in max 7 and 6. Vray 1.47.03

6º move plane for separate of box and all ok.

i know I should use visibility/transparency in material but i want report it.

    thx

    Strange really,

I just did a quick test following all your instructions...
and it worked just fine with me... render time was 33sec... on
    Athlon XP 1800+ 512RAM, Win2K SP3...
    though
    I used MAX 5.1 + VRay 1.47.03

I will give that a try the very first moment tomorrow morning, with MAX 7 as well...

    P.S.:
Have your applied any Materials on the objects ???

As I promised yesterday night, I did run the test on MAX 7...

As You are right - the LightCache really hangs Up....though this appears
        only if:

#1 your objects have absolutely no materials
(just how MAX randomly selects any colour while creating the object)
#2 they are aligned due to their PIVOT points...

        SOLUTIONS:
#1 Apply a material and it goes just normal...
#2 In case You don't want a material to be assigned:
        - After you have already created the plane and the box,
        1/ separate them
2/ then Use Align - and align them like: the minimum of the box TO the
maximum of the plane (due to Z - depends on the viewport)

Then it renders OK without any materials...

i wouldnt say its a bug. just something not to do. its been around for quite some time i think. kinda like the "no raytrace material" rule
