  • Color difference in saved image

So i noticed that images saved, no matter if its JPG, PNG or EXR has a difference in colors? The saved image has less red in it then from what i see in the frame buffers. Is this a V-ray thing or a 3DS Max thing or just a thing? Never paid attention to this before really? The left image is the saved one and the right is from frame buffer. Is there a way to fix this?

A few things may be happening:
    1. Color depth differences - the VFB utilized 32-bit color, while .PNGs and .JPGs are usually 8-bit. EXRs can be 32-bit though, you may want to export them as such (Render Setup> V-Ray> Frame Buffer> V-Ray raw image file> Browse menu > 32-bit output) and see if there's any difference.
    2. If you have color corrections they need to be explicitly set to be saved in the .EXR (option is located in the same menu mentioned above).
    3. If you're using a OCIO display correction in the VFB, make sure it matches the viewer one.
    4. Other. Send us the scene and where you're viewing the image so we can troubleshoot further.

      Hey

Thanks for reply. It seems this is not a V-ray issue... Thing is, if i open the render in Paint on windows, the colors are the same as in the frame buffer, but if i open in photoshop or windows standard image viewer, the image is off with a yellow/green tint... Uploading the image to a Reviewsite also shows the image "wrong"... Silly times...

Sounds like a gamma 2.2 vs sRGB profile difference as already discussed in numerous threads such as this one.

I had this issue. I thought it was Max / V-Ray colour management issues, but whatever I changed, in Photoshop the images had a lot less red in them. Then I realised it might be my new monitor- I checked in Windows Display settings and yes, it had a Samsung color profile assigned. I changed this to sRGB, restarted, and everything now works as expected.
