  • Severe slowdown with large file

I have a scene that's 3gb, consisting of a load of city models.

Even with all of these hidden and only a shaderball to work on literally everything is slowed to a crawl.
The ME is almost unusable, with each operation taking several seconds, e.g. just selecting a node in the simplest of graphs, with no other shaders to render.
IPR is slow to start, slow to finish.

Why should this be the case?

This on Max 24 etc...all up to date latests.

Hi, thanks for posting. Have you checked that you are not running out of memory?
Are you rendering in another 3ds Max or using the same machine as a render node for network rendering?
Do you keep IPR running and do you have slowdowns with it stopped? Do you have the same issues if you assign another render engine apart from V-Ray?

      No memory issues.
Single session of Max, no DR.
IPR is necessarily running to view shader settings.

I have a deadline so don't have time to test further but will once it's done, as it's clearly not normal.
