  • Difference beetween VFB and saved image result-3ds max 2025 + Vray 6 2.1

    Hi everybody,
with the 2025 release of 3ds max I'm having issues in matching what I see on VFB and what I got in the saved jpeg.
I found some threads about color correction happening on display and not being applied on saved image but, till now, nothing worked.
I does not depend on the scene and I've been working with 3ds2024 + vray and 3ds2023 + vray and I never experienced this kind of problems.
On the right of the sceenshot we have the VFB view and on the left the saved jpegs. The scenes are super easy with a couple o lights and some chaos materials.
I tried opening files from max 2024 and I noticed that the issue occurs just with projects created with 2025 version of 3dsmax.
    Any advice?
    Thank you in advance.

    Nicola

Mind if you attach the scene as well?

Thank you. After thorough testing here's what we concluded. When using 3ds Max OCIO color management (as in your case) to get identical VFB and 8-bit images you must either:

          1. Output the file through the 3ds Max options, so that the native 3ds Max conversions/display/view transform work properly.
          2. Output the file through V-Ray, with the OCIO correction in the VFB set to "Save in image" and the 3ds Max's conversion set to "No conversion".

If using the 3ds Max OCIO color management was not intended, reverting to Gamma workflow (Rendering>Color Management) would yield the expected results with no extra steps.

            Thank you Hermit,
Switching to the gamma workflow fixed everything.
            Yay.

              Hi There.
              Same problem.
I found that the gamma workflow is fine but using default 3ds max OCIO with VFB not working. If I use 3ds max default frame buffer there are no problems.
