  • Objects randomly don't cast a shadow

I got the issue that on several occasions random objects don't cast its own shadow, I've tried every debug trick I could think of. Here is a super simple scene in which I've managed to isolate the problem that replicates the issue. Note that two of the boxes works normally and two won't. Please help!

It's simply the sun's shadow bias...the cause of many similar issues. Set it to 0.0.

      I hate that value.

Hehe yeah it seems it's regularly screwing with people. Oddly it's one of the first things I think to check but in this scene it was really odd and had me stumped for a good few minutes, as it wasn't the usual look and acted like a real cut-off

Well, that fixed the issue! Thank you so much, I thought I had corrupted the whole file somehow, as I've imported some newly bought assets. Now when I look back at it, it was so obvious, all the shadows were quite off in this scene!

          Thank you again!

I'm wondering why the default value is 0.2 bananas tho!

It's a legacy default parameter, from when it could make a real difference in some scenes apparently. It should disappear at some point, we're told. Meanwhile it continues to cause headaches
            for the unsuspecting

I've never had a problem with this when working at a correct scale. when I'm doing close ups and correctly scaled tiny items/products I'll adjust it lower. But the same as you, it's one of the first things I check if someone is having problems with shadows.
