  • .jpg and VFB difference

    Hello community,

I'm having a strange issue when saving images as a .jpg compared with what is shown on the VFB. I've attached examples of the jpg and screenshot of the VFB. Would anyone have any ideas on the cause? Thanks.

Could it be that Color Management in 3ds max is set to OCIO?

Hi. I just checked and can confirm my settings are showing the same as your screenshot.

Damn I was hoping that it could be that, how about the Gamma when saving the image? is it in 1.0 or 2.2?

I always set the Gamma to Override 2.2 manually on every save.

It's a pain, but it's the only way I've found to get the right color.

If the 3ds Max native's color corrections are set to Gamma Workflow and Gamma 2.2, this should happen automatically (Automatic option). If it still happens, attach a sample scene so we can troubleshoot.

I'm in Gamma Workflow and Gamma 2.2 and the automatic mode has never worked for me.

Thanks for the provided scene. Something was deeply messed up with the color management settings in your particular scene. The issue occurred in Scanline as well.

Found a quick fix, however. Go to the Color Management settings, click "Load System Defaults" and afterward switch back to Gamma Workflow.

It doesn't work. Still the same problem.

My problem has been resolved by manually adjusting the Gamma override figure to 2.2 recommended by ChuckRT. Thanks!

Another way is to merge the scene into a fresh one, where Gamma Workflow is set. This worked for me. Also, a good idea is to check your environment variables.

Ignore. I assumed 3ds Max had an environment variable for setting the default color management, but I can't find such.
