Maps and the file itself are on a local drive, nothing special there. Same as I always did this but like a year ago this started. I wrote to Collin.

Maps and everything are stored on a local drive. Everything's the same as before, like a year ago when it all worked fine. Just realized I have older relinkbitmaps plug in and updated it but no. For this Ford file it just doesn't work.

MAX crashes after I select the destination folder. I don't even get to click ok. Not sure what vray does at that point.

Are your paths very very long (256+ characters)? Also, see if you can send another dump file (the one right after the crash; check the timestamp).

By the way, does it crash on your end when the "Automatically create proxies" option is disabled? One of our devs told me that some crashes are caused by this option (a fix he's working on). Maybe your issue could potentially be resolved with it too.

Its definitely a long path problem.

Just bought a new threadripper workstation with windows 11 and max 2025.
Same crash as I had in max 2023 after selecting a long path over network when creating a proxy.
Max crashes without warning to desktop, no dump file.
Selecting 2 folders lower in the path and it saves fine, no crash at all. Everytime.

Now i also have the same problem in anima while importing the fbx background file. Crash to desktop after pressing ok.
I create the anima folder in my project folder which makes the folder name pretty long as anima also creates more folders inside.
Making the project folder shorter imports the background fbx file fine.

All the other programs I use do not have problems saving in the long folders paths.
Hopefully this can be resolved somehow.

FYI: we already have an improvement request logged (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-8826) for V-Ray to support Windows' Long Paths feature.

EDIT: Is that feature enabled on your end?

Now that I'm testing it, I do not get a crash. When I posted the suggestion, I managed to crash it only once. It may not be related to the path at all.

Well it can't be a long path problem with me since this is my path and it's local. It happened again so sending a log if it helps.

Those logs aren't helpful. You've forgotten to answer my question from post #19, could you answer it?

Sorry for the late response, its pretty busy here at work for the moment.
I forgot to say than iam still on vray 6.20.
The feature you mentioned is probably a vray 7 one?

A path that will result in a crash is :
                    D:\Scenes\Maxtree\Maxtree - Plant Models Vol 115\Vraymesh
File to be saved as a proxy has a name like this : Str Bloem Maxtree115-008-1.vrmesh

When saved 3 paths lower in D:\Scenes the proxy is saved without a crash.

Loading the proxies from this path works 100%.

What I recently noticed is that I sometimes CAN create a proxy on the new threadripper (which is much faster), but that 3ds Max will crash afterwards, sometimes immediately and sometimes after a few minutes of work.
But always after creating a proxy in a longer path. On the old threadripper the crash was almost always immediately after selecting the folder. (where to save the proxy)

I don't know if this is important but I thought I should share this.

That path is no way near what is considered a long path (256+ characters) so it must be something else. The feature I was talking about is not yet supported on V-Ray 7, too. Have you checked the folder's permissions? Could you provide a dump file (named 3dsmax_minidump.dmp and located in the Windows Temp folder) that was created right after the crash?
