  • Frame buffer render VS Exported image

    Hi all,
I ve been having an issue lately with exported rendered images. These look washed out compared to what's shown on the vray frame buffer. I believe this is happening since I switched to Max 2025. Has anyone encounter the same issue with the new 3d max colour management settings? I have revert back to the Gamma workflow in the colour management menu with a gamma value of 2.2. If I switch to the OCIO 3d studio max default setting then the result is even worse with the exported image being super dark. Below is a screenshot of the exported image versus the vray frame buffer in gamma workflow mode. Click image for larger version

Hi, thanks for posting. Please make sure that after reverting to Gamma 2.2 color management your V-Ray rendering primaries is switched to sRGB:

With the 3ds Max 2025, the OCIO workflow for JPEG you need to set the 3ds Max's render output defaults to "no conversion" and enable the "save in image" checker in the VFB

For multichannel exr again the 3ds Max's output is set to "no conversion" but the ocio has to be loaded in your viewer/prost production software. For example Chaos Player can load the ocio config file using the lut slot.

Here is another thread about this topic.
