  • UI Bug: Switching between two different VrayUVWRandomizer Maps crashes 3dsmax

This is specific to the compact material editor, the bug doesn't seem to be present when using the slate material editor.

    To reproduce:
    1. Open the compact material editor
    2. Create a new vray material
    3. Create a new Vraybitmap in any of the texture channel
    4. Create a new VrayUVWRandomizer map for the above map
    5. Copy the VrayBitmap to another material channel, doesn't matter what it is.
    6. Open the material/map navigator
    7. Click on one VrayUVWRandomizer map and then the other.
    8. Max will hang for a bit and then crash.

Doesn't seem to happen on my end. Regarding point 6, you switch to the Compact ME, so you can open the navigator, right? Do send a video reproduction and also the 3dsmax_minidump.dmp file created after the crash. It is located here: "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp". Make sure it's the one created after the crash by looking at the date/time stamp.

Ok, it's because you are using V-Ray 5. The issue is reproducible there, however, although we can provide technical assistance with V-Ray 5, the version is getting old (V-Ray 7 Beta is already released) to implement any fixes and create new stable builds. The issue is already fixed in V-Ray 6, though.

I figured because nightly builds are still released for vray 5, it is still supported.
We didn't see a need to switch to vray 6 as it just wasn't worth the cost.
Will most likely update to 7 once a stable version is released. But until then it would be nice not to have it crash.
