  • Incompatible CPU detected! Missing instruction sets : AVX2

    Hi everyone!

Just tried to install V-Ray 7 on my workstation and it gave me this error: Incompatible CPU detected! Missing instruction sets : AVX2
I know my CPU is old, but didn't expect that. Is there any way to solve this? Otherwise I will have to go to Corona or stick with V-Ray 6.
    My CPU is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2687W 0 @ 3.10GHz 3.10 GHz (2 processors)
    Thanks

Yes you cannot use Vray 7 with that CPU since it doesn't support AVX2. We have a couple of render machines like yours that we will have to phase out if we switch to 7.

I have same problem but I have 14900K and no one says same problem on internet. How is ist possible Incompatible CPU detected! Missing instruction sets:AVX, AVX2 on 14900K cpu?

Could you try installing the latest stable nightly build? We made some fixes in this regard.

This version does not work on an Intel Xeon E5-2670 processor.

Yeah, because that one doesn't have AVX2.

Will there be some way to workaround this problem? Isn't this feature only needed by vray gpu?
Are old cpus will have to be left behind if we want to switch to Vray7? I have a bunch of servers cpu running in Xeon E5 proc. Will be such a waste to let them go, since they are still pretty capable of rendering the job.

Agreed, we should have a choice or fallback and not force user to just drop the hardware, which is expensive and has a lifecycle of its own.

Sorry to say that there's no workaround, and there's no going back.

                      My CPU is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2687W 0 @ 3.10GHz 3.10 GHz
This CPU was launched 13 years ago. It's status is end of service by Intel(meaning it doesn't get security updates) for the past 5 years.
A newer low-end CPU like the AMD Ryzen 9700X costs around 250 Euros and performs nearly 4x faster in rendering. A whole system with the 9700X could be as cheap as 1000 Euros for 4x more performance than the E5-2687W

AVX2 is necessary for V-Ray and V-Ray GPU, there is no way around it.
