  • Standard lights do not show up in render elements

    Hey guys,
I have a case here where I am uncertain if I am going mad or not.
Do the 3dsMax standard lights not show up in the render elements? Is this the intended behaviour? The docs don't say anything meaningful.

The scene consists of a simple teapot lit with standard spot lights and directional lights. None of them show up in the render elements, while they of course show correctly in the RGB.

EDIT: Disabling consistent lighting elements fixes this. The standard lights show up in the lighting and specular elements. Since consistent lighting elements are the default now, where do standard lights go in terms of render elements?
It would also be really really good if such important info could be found in the docs.

We noticed that in V-Ray 7 the consistent lighting element option is gone.
That means there is no way to get standard 3dsMax lights to show up in the render elements. Can somebody from Chaos please finally answer if that's indeed the case?
If so, it is a huge dealbreaker and I am deeply worried that this is documented NOWHERE!

While I totally agree that the standard lights should show up in the render elements, I am curious why you are using standard lights— not in a judgmental way, but in a truly curious way.

Is it to get the traditional volumetric lights? Or just because old school spotlights are easier to control than directionality in VRay lights?

I think I have only used standard lights to get traditional volumetrics because they are usually way faster than VRayEnvironmentFog.

          This.
And since the standard lights were fully supported (are they still? I would really like to know from the devs!) I can not keep the artist from using them.

Thanks for the report. We are not yet sure if this is expected or not. Vlado will take a look. I'll get back to you.

EDIT: FYI, logged an issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAX-14715) for dev investigation. As a workaround, I suggest you use a VRayLightSelect set to direct illumination with all standard lights included.
