Ok... this becoming a big pain in the arse... color management in 3ds max and how the vfb saves the rendered image is just not working as it did in past versions. You render in the frame buffer save all passes and open the beauty pass and you get a wysiwyg image. Now I get trash... what does one need to do to get back to what it used to be? I leave it on the default color correction mode and it's too dark, I switch it to Gamma workflow and its washed out. Such a waste of time having to edit images before I can even start my post process. All my adjustments in the VFB are set to srgb and baked into the render when saved. So... what's the fix?

What VFB Display Correction are you using? Which V-Ray 7 build have you installed?
To get matching results between the VFB and an 8-bit output when using the OCIO 3ds Max defaults and the VFB Display Correction is set to OCIO:
1. Set the Render Output Defaults in the 3ds Max Color management options to “No Conversion”
2. Check the "Save in Image" in the VFB's OCIO display correction layer
If using Gamma workflow, ensure the VFB's OCIO display correction gets saved in the image.
If none of this works - send the scene so we can troubleshoot.
