Chaos Scatter for 3ds max failed to initialize and not loading

I get this error when launching 3dsmax 2024 and am unable to get the Chaos Scatter plugin working.


System and Software version info:

• Windows 10
• 3ds Max 2024
• Vray7 -- issue started when using Vray6, I updated to 7 to see if it would fix the issue but it did not.

I have tried the following trouble shooting steps per the Chaos Support pages suggestions:

• Re-installed Vray7 - Same Error
• Uninstalled Chaos Scatter, Re-installed Vray7 -- Same Error
• On another PC -- installed 3ds Max 2024 fresh, installed Vray7 -- Same Error

Vray is working as expected with no issues.

One other note is that on my main system I had installed Corona last year for a project. It had installed Chaos Scatter and I had the issue then but did not need scatter so ignored it. I have since uninstalled Corona to be sure the Scatter plugin was being installed with Vray7.

Any help sorting this out would be appreceated.

Try resetting 3ds max to its defaults and see if that makes a difference.

I installed 3ds 2024 on a 2nd machine. It was a new install with nothing changed so should be as default as it can be. Then I installed Vray7 and nothing else. I still had the issue.

Based on what I've found out, it may be caused by an unupdated Windows - particularly unupdated .NET Framework and MVSC++ Redistributable. Try updating Windows, restart your PC and see if it occurs again.
