"Failed to initialize OIDN CUDA device. Falling back to CPU" | V-Ray Standalone on Linux

Hi there,

We are trying to evaluate how V-Ray Standalone performs on Linux. We've installed recommended drivers but we are seeing this warning in the logs:

"Failed to initialize OIDN CUDA device. Falling back to CPU"

System:
- NVIDIA-SMI 525.147.05 Driver Version: 525.147.05 CUDA Version: 12.0
- RTX 4090
- AMD EPYC 7543
- Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS


How we can resolve this issue?

Also if we downgrade GPU drivers to recommended version for CUDA rendering engine then we encounter this error/crash when trying to use RTX rendering engine on Linux:
OptiX requires NVidia driver 535.00 or later! Error Code : 7801. For more information visit: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/a...-for-V-Ray-GPU (which is Windows only link btw)

Not exactly sure, what is going on there. Can we use most recent Nvidia drivers on Linux to switch between RTX and CUDA?

That driver seems pretty old (October 2023), while the newest I found for that card is 570.133.07 (from March 2025). Could you try it?

What does it mean if we will be using NOT verified driver?

You can ignore it. It seems it hasn't been updated (in Linux) for quite a while, hence the confusion. I'll mention it to the devs.
