Every freaking SKU model! I can't fix so many things. What am I not doing right? Normals are flipped, and when I Unify, the geometry goes mad. I removed the smoothing, and it is still messed up. These render black.

I think every SKU I've seen is horrible, so yeah, awkward. Rebuild is the least stressful.
I used to say that I'll take the model but the cost may increase if I have to literally rebuild the thing.

Post the mesh and it could be a simple fix though.

Is it possible to get the .SKP file?
      I'd like to try something.

I ended up rebuilding all of the broken geometry. Here is the model.

I'll try that when I get a chance. I put an edit normals modifier on it, but I don't think I reset anything.

Indeed, the .SKP file is badly made.
Many of the faces are inverted.
But when I import into 3DS Max 2025, I don't have any particular problems.

As James said, when importing SketchUp models, provided they are made modelled correctly in SU (fe: correct surface direction > which you can check in monochrome mode in SU, default is purple face = back of the face), you need to apply a normal modifier and press reset. The handles need to go from Green (explicit) to Blue (unspecified). 99% of the time this is the only thing you need to do. Sometimes additionally add a vertex weld and a smooth modifier.

This is also not the first time you mentioned issues with SketchUp cfr this thread where I already provided you with that solution: https://forums.chaos.com/forum/v-ray.../1171829-glass

Also be weary of mirrored geometry. SketchUp applies a negative scale when mirroring (flip along axis) groups, which 3dsMax doesn't like.

I'm always having issues with SU models, and I did a search, knowing I have asked before, but didn't find anything useful.

try checking double sided and/or thin mode in the dirt map as well as fixing the normals as I mentioned above.

Double-sided has resolved the wonky issue. I'll probably still have to work out the normals once I add colors and materials.

just put a smoth modifier on top and collapse.

BTWm Sketchup is a great tool but it as it's own rules, you fail to follow them you'll have issues whe importing to 3dsmax
