  • Light underground & exclude specular bug

    Hello
Here's a simple scene that doesn't seems to work properly from our point of view.

A simple ground plane, 2 sphere, 1 light is over the ground and is lighting the right sphere, the left light is under the ground and has the ground in its exclude properties.
The both lights don't reacts the same way in the speculars

    Any idea why ?

    Thanks

    Done with 3dsmax 2024, vray 6.20.06

You need to turn off the "Visible in Reflections" of the plane to see the light. Otherwise, it blocks the light's reflection.

In this case, i have no impact of the ground on the sphere. And the light spec is different....

FYI, it's to light a character from below while having the impact of the ground.

In that case, it's best to leave the light above the ground and make it invisible. What's wrong with this method?

The difference in specular result maybe caused by the difference in the proximity of the lights or something else entirely. Attach the scene so I can have a look.

          Here's the simple scene.
The light are really not too far from one to other, so it looks more like a bug.
Some time it's hard to place a light under a character, it's faster to place it under the ground

Thanks for the provided scene. As expected, the difference comes from the light's proximity to the sphere, which may not be that far, but in combination with its directionality, it yields different results. It also happens without the ground plane. Otherwise, I can't think of a way of having both the ground and light's specular reflections whilst having the light below the ground.
