  • Chaos scatter won't render cloud VDBs

Is there a reason why VDB clouds scattered with Chaos scatter wouldn't render?

I put some Volume Grid VDBs in my scene. I tested and they render fine. Then I used Chaos Scatter to scatter them inside a box object with the "3D - In bounding box" mode, but the scattered clouds just don't render at all. I also don't see the scattered preview in the viewport. Not sure if that has something to do with it? I tried scattering a simple sphere and that's working as expected, I can see the sphere scattered inside the big box in the viewport and it's also rendering well.

Do I need to switch the chaos scatter to some different mode to work with VDBs? Or should it work out of the box?

Works fine on my end. The object that you're distributing to must be a 3d one (a box rather than a plane) when using 3d - in Bounding Box. Attaching a sample scene.

Thank you Aleksandar! With the help of your scene I figured out the problem. My scene is super large and I have to scale the clouds up to 500,000%. The Chaos scatter was actually working properly, but it was scattering the clouds at their original 100% size, so I couldn't see anything. Once I checked the handy "preserve model scale" checkbox, it was fine.

That being said, it seems the only way how I can preview the scattering of clouds is in Box previz type. Is it possible to see the volumetrics as point clouds?

chaos scatter only shows bounding boxes as far as I know. I do hope that changes in the future.
